Social Media Marketing & the Future of Media

Saturday, April 10, 2010 - 10 AM to 3:00 PM
Presented by Rob Haggart, Co-Sponsored by The Photography Department of the College of Santa Fe

The business of Photography is changing on a daily basis. The old rules of marketing are also changing radically and social media outlets like Blogs, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn provide photographers with new and powerful tools to reach potential clients. Rob Haggart, a former photo editor at Outside and Men's Journal, and now the super popular blogger behind the site aphotoeditor.com, will join us for this four hour in-depth look at how marketing is changing for photographers and how they can take advantage of the new tools to stay ahead of the curve in this everchanging business.

Seminar Topics

  • Traditional Marketing - The industry is changing fast, but the old way of landing jobs is still your best bet. I will cover all the traditional marketing methods–email, direct mail, source books, cold calling and office visits–with plenty of examples.
  • Social Media Marketing - Next we dive into the big 4 social marketing channels available to photographers (blogs, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) and discuss how they work and how photographers can use them.
  • The Future of Media - I will discuss where I think magazines, newspapers and advertising are headed and give photographers ways to be ahead of the curve to meet their needs.
  • How To Get Started - Finally, I will demonstrate how I use social media to build my business and how you can use all the tools available to do it too.

Rob Haggart

He has received photo editing recognition from Graphis, American Photography, Society of Publication Designers, Communication Arts, American Society of Magazine Editors, Photo District News, and was chosen as part of the creative team of the year by Ad Week. He currently freelances as a photography director and runs APhotoEditor.com, an innovative and engaging blog on photography. His most recent venture, APhotoFolio.com builds portfolio websites for photographers.
